Wow, this is such an awesome idea I'm so glad I stopped by this forum to see some of these amazing WiPs!! I just can't believe some of the stuff you all can make as digital artists! I'll have to stick with old fashion pencils and maybe a literature piece, since I can't even edit something in photoshop, let alone create it!

BTW, I have to say, Ravenhawk, your drawing so far is absolutely gorgeous! It was amazing to see your idea evolve into what you have! I can't wait to see all the other finished projects!!

Name: Thistle Xandra
Art Form: old fashion pencils/ color pencils & literature
Idea: drawing will be something with costumes & story probably something about ritualists and spirits!
Progress Gallery: I still need to figure out how to do this (I've only linked pics before) I'll probably just post the story in one post when I'm done with the pic
Official Contest: [X] if the drawing doesn't come out half-bad, why not?!
Workshop Awards: [X]

OK, now I have to go do some thinking and searching for some pencils!

Has been a while since I posted. A brief update: I began doing the beginning of my final piece (I went with the second idea I had which revolved around my elementalist), but than I got busy with school and other stuff, and then as luck would have it I lost my Bristol board material that I was drawing on, so I can't finish or continue that work, or even restart it. Q_Q

Gonna be spending this whole week looking for that blasted thing, hopefully I can find it asap.

Will also spend this week thinking of something to write (unless Tzu decided to not go with the capable to submit two works).

I worked on my story intro a bit and think I've got my 3 characters' personalities figured out. This intro is a bit rough. I still have to add some more details and make the flow better, but I think I've got the horror/relationship feel of the story coming out and the plot line is starting to flesh itself out in my mind. I'm thinking that this intro will probably be about a one tenth of the final story, but who knows where the story will take me Anyway, here's the story WiP. Haven't yet touched the pencil sketches but that'll probably be next

Oooooh, art thread. art thread

This seems like it's a great idea! I may perhaps make something for the spirit of things but it really depends on how much sparetime i can accrue/if i remember

I feel like this would be a good time to learn how to use this tablet I have; i bought it a year ago and got way too busy at the time and never urged to use it until now. Im thinking of starting out with a boba fett helmet, so maybe I'll change that up and fit it into this workshop (Boba Fett kind of looks like the mad king..? o.O)

So I'll put my name down just incase, and I'll be sure to check back and critique other works. I love providing feedback for other people because it gives me ideas of ways I can improve my own work, so I try to critique as much as I can ^^

Name: Death By An Arrow
Art Form: Errr... Not quite sure. A drawing of somesort, whether pencil/grayscale or digital will depend
Idea: Something... halloweeny. LOL I really dont have an Idea yet
Progress Gallery: I have a deviantART and photobucket account, but do you want the whole progress gallery saved as one image or can they be organized into a folder or category in my profile?
Real Life Prizes: Notanks
Official Contest: If I'm happy with my piece, why not. Its not like id have a worse chance of winning by not entering.
Workshop Awards: Yeah, yeah!

I might ask some newbish questions if I take the digital art route, so if its considered to be derailing from the exact focus of the thread (halloween workshop; not teach me how to shoop :P) i can keep it to a minimum and/or PM anyone willing to help my inquiries ;P

Wow, awesome progress everyone!

Charlie: Just like everyone else, I love the folds in Gwen's clothes, they look so cool!
Can't wait to see the finished full pic ^_^

Kiya: *floored* Looking so much forward to the scene pictures!

Marshy: I don't know how you do it... your posts should have a cuteness overload warning button or something! So awesome!

Raven: Wow, you pic really came together! Love the atmosphere, and her expression!

As for me, I restarted my pic many times... Now I dunno what to work on... *lol*
I will try and continue my grasping dead pic, I like the theme. I might have to decide between submitting 2 pics.
I got very carried away with learning to draw, read heaps of tutorials, and practiced a LOT. I also upgraded myself to a Wacom Intuos 4 M graphics tablet ^_^
OMG what a step up from the Bamboo! I swear it makes me draw better

I wanted to practice drawing eyes, makeup and hair... Like I said, I got carried away, so this is my pic now...
She's gonna be pouring candy corn from one hand to another. Background will be the same as in my grasping dead pic.
The skin is not finished yet, that's why it looks so blotchy. I find smooth blending of colors difficult, but super fun ^_^
Her armor is not shaded yet.
Her one eye looks a bit weird on my screen because of stupid .jpg compression. I gotta try and fix that.
Loooots and loooots more blending ^_^
(I know, the hair doesn't cast any shadow on her yet... it was a quickly drawn test-like hair.)

What do you guys think?

wow, minami... the face is very beautiful and I love the makeup choices! The lips, upper eye shadow, and shadowing on the cheekbones came out really, really well! Personally, I would lighten the under eye area (so it doesn't match the upper shadow) since I don't put makeup there (it tends to crease after laughing alot all day), but that's just my own personal opinion and I'm definitely no makeup expert I love the green of the eyes by the way, and I hope you keep that color in the final version!

added new people to the list!

The Artbook Award has been edited:

Quote:
Artbook - [The Art Of Guild Wars 2 signed by the entire dev team, a hand-made Seer plushie, and a 8"x10" signed art print.] (donator(s): Tzu, KiyaKoreena)

The Artbook award is a very special new addition to the Workshop. It is the Artbook I won with my Dwayna costume last year, untouched and pristine. In order for you to be eligible for this award you MUST be okay with providing me your address via e-mail if you win, and you can not have won a similar artbook (signed by the entire dev team) before, or this year. I will pay for the shipping, within a padded package. If you wish to compete for this, please tick the appropriate box in the submission sheet at the bottom of this post. If you compete for this and you win an artbook in this year's official contest, I will remove you from the list of competitors toward this particular reward. You will of course be eligible for every other award in the Workshop nonetheless. This prize is given to the all-round best artist of the Halloween Workshop, based on progress, critique-giving and receiving, skill and quality of final product.
and a bonus has been added:

Quote:
BONUS! JR will be handing out a red Guild Wars 2 t-shirt (PAX-style) to an artist who stands out amongst the rest. He/she will be given a choice of size M or L, and must be marked with a (willing to receive RL prizes) on the list below. Tzu will be giving out two grey t-shirts (PAX-style) in size L to two -marked artists based on a ranom number generator lottery!
This was made a bonus and not an Award. This is because the t-shirts will be given to artists independent of the judging for the awards, meaning someone who has already won a Workshop award can win a t-shirt as well, provided of course that he/she is marked with a .

@ Minami: I love your new work, she really looks like Minami too (and you! )! <33

I'm leaving Eir (probably) for a project more related to GW1 (and WiK). Secret for now in case I switch back to Eir, or something else yet again. It's difficult to find a project which is manageable with the very limited time I have to spare. :/

I feel you on the uni work, it's a bit of a gamble for me too but we will just have to try our best!

Tzu, regarding the random drawing t-shirt... any come in xl? I'm a big guy (6'8" tall). Medium won't fit and large would be tight.

Also: Found my bristol board material! Will get to drawing this weekend, hopefully be able to catch up a bit to everyone else (speedy devils, give us amateurs a chance!).

Thanks Thistle and Tzu!

I was very nervous about posting that WIP drawing here... I had no idea what anyone would say, seeing that I don't have experience in drawing or receiving C&C regarding anything drawn. I'll try and dig up the other WIPs of this drawing, at least I made some while I was in the practice/sketch phase of this picture. ^_^

Tzu, I actually tried to make the drawn Necro a mix between my in-game Necro and my real life self. ^_^ SO glad you could see it! I was trying to mix it together so that my drawn person looks more "real" and not game proportions.

Thistle, my Necro's eyes are that color, so it will stay that way too Thanks so much for your comment!

Tzu, the real life prizes are amazing!!! Thank you all so much for giving those away to winners!
*runs and makes sure the little sign is next to her name on the front*

All right! I got my album linked!

It's not very exciting now, just a paint pic of where I want my characters to go in the actual drawing

I've got some lore for my story, too. Tzu, should I just keep adding pieces of the story bit by bit using spoil tags or create a completely separate thread (or create a webpage??) for it and the final version?

Edit: Decided to add the lore I finally settled on about how urns are created

Ok, I dug up the WIPs...

The base sketch and highlights (I already did the armor lineart here, so I wouldn't have to draw skin and waste time where it's not gonna be visible anyways):

Some more highlights, middle tone and shadowy, low light areas:

Now a big jump, I forgot to save any screenies, cause I got caught up in details
Basically, I put a palette together, and blocked in the in-between colors. Then I made the block areas smaller and smaller, then started to blend. All done using the brush tool on hard setting, tablet pen pressure and size sensitivity enabled (custom brush shape).
You can clearly see the block edges still.

Where I am now, the pic you can see in my previous pic post.
Worked on the eyes, makeup and the basic hair, blended a LOT, sketched the jewelries, and midtone colored the armor.

Hope you guys find these pics helpful & entertaining on how a drawing noob works.

It just takes a lot of patience, redrawing and practicing.
Look at reference pictures, they help.
I've been doing so much drawing... I hope I won't get an inflamed wrist.. lol
I've had some free time to draw a lot. ^_^

Of course I think making 3D pictures for a few years now, it gets ingrained in you how a hand moves and what it looks like from certain angles. All the times I had to zoom in close to a hand and pose it joint by joint....

All right, one more progress pic for today.

Shaded the armor plus drew texturing on it, and put shades on the skin where the armor is, so it looks more put on her.
Also shaded the hair.
Color blocked the head dress, and its jewels.
Did the lineart (a crappy one at that, but it's only for guide) for the arm jewel.
I need to draw those candy corn before I spend too much time on the hands and palms... >_>

EDIT: No ambient color is added yet, I learned that that comes later in the process, and shouldn't be the first thing you draw :P

I'm willing to donate 100k (in-game gold) to the prize list. Please add it wherever it's needed most. I've added Mary Sandford to my friend's list.

And I can add five Black and five White dyes to the donation.

So very cool, Minami! It still floors me how drawings can go from sketches to digital art pieces, so I love how your post shows your choices AND why you did them!!

Is the final armor color going to match her eyes or are you going for a different shade of green?
